Christmas bird count
Ecuador is one of the mega diverse countries around the world, the ideal place for people who want to live and enjoy the nature with all the comfort that they could need.
Some cities and parishes, in the amazon region can offer the best experience with a lot of activities such as the Christmas bird count that is organized every year in Cosanga, a parish that is located in the valley of Quijos at Napo province. This parish was the first place where the Christmas bird count was made, in order to emphasize and promote the important of these species for the “aviturismo” in the community and around the world.
Cosanga with 492 bird species during three years won the first award like the “first place in the world in bird watching” in the Christmas bird count, beating Costa Rica and Mindo. Some of the species that people could see in Cosanga are: “Oropendolas”, “casiques”, “tucanes”, “colibries”, “gallos de la peña” and others.
This activity is organized from December 21 to December 23, during three days people can see the colors, the form and the habitat of these bird species. But why this is possible? This area is located inside of the Sumaco National Park, an area that was declared by the UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, an area that contributes to the conservation of the endemic species.
Other areas with strategic places that people can visit to see bird species are: the Antisana, Tandayapa, Yanacocha, Galapagos, Papallacta and others.
These events has all the support of the Ministry of tourism, in order to promote in all the country and around the world all the resources that Ecuador has, in this way our country could attract the attention from people who specialize in this type of tourism, people called “birders”.
